Lin Chinese Cuisine and Tea House

After passing by a few times before, I decided to check out Lin Chinese Cuisine and Tea House on West Broadway. After dining here, I knew that this restaurant did not live up to the authentic Shanghai food standard. The service was also horrible as displayed by their nonchalant attitude toward diners. The restaurant was not remotely busy at all and the staff saw me waiting, but chose to focus on other things instead of greeting and seating me.

On another note, one of the servers was very rude when serving the table next to me who had ordered fried rice. The server placed the order down as chow mein and was adamant that was what was ordered even though I clearly heard the customer ask for the fried rice. Although the server eventually took the wrong order back, she was unapologetic even if it was her fault. My food also came out extremely slow and when it was brought to me, it was only semi-warm.

Xiao Long Baos ($5)

These had thicker skin compared to other xiao long baos I had tried at other restaurants. It was packed with a lot of soup, but it was evidently missing the savoury pork taste. The best part about eating xiao long baos is when they are freshly hot out of the stove. These were only warm at best. Overall, Lin’s xiao long baos were decent but there are definitely better elsewhere in the Lower Mainland.

Pan Fried Pork and Vegetable Pot Stickers ($5)

These were drenched in grease and it did not have that extra-crisp bottom crust that I was wanting. As well, the shell was quite thick.

Noodle with Meat Sauce ($7)

Meat sauce noodles

This dish was covered with a lot of the thickened soy sauce mixture which I found to be a bit too salty. I also thought the dish had too much sliced cucumbers and could have used more minced pork meat instead. The noodles were cooked nicely though with just enough chewiness for my liking.

On an ending note, there were too many red flags with this restaurant and I will most likely not return again. The customer service was very disappointing, especially how they would not accept fault and instead blame customers for their mistake. The quality of the food is okay, but definitely not worth the price considering that there are much better options out there.
