L.A. Chicken

I do not know why it took me so long to venture out to Richmond to try L.A. Chicken. As a first timer here, I was quite shocked how rundown this place looked and in need of some renovation for sure. There are roughly around 5 small tables, another sign that it is mostly just a takeout joint. I was there during noon time where they had lunch combinations to choose from.

2 Pieces of Chicken + Drink + Fries ($8)
Fried ChickenEach piece of chicken was nice and evenly covered in batter before being fried. You get to choose between either regular or extra crispy. The extra spicy had a subtle spiciness to the skin which was perfect. I was given one piece each of drumstick and thigh. The meat was extremely tender and juicy. Overall, I did not find the chicken to be excruciatingly oily where my fingers would be smothered in oil.Gravy and ketchup were also provided on the side. With the fries, they didn’t beat McDonald’s fries for me (I know, McDonald’s) as it tasted bland and had a thick cut to them even though they had an undoubtedly golden brown color.

Takeaways:
1) Good fried chicken that beats KFC and Churches (although slightly more expensive)
2) Not conveniently accessible if you live outside of Richmond
3) Can be a weekly addiction

4) Good comfort food
